मुंबई की विक्रम बी. राठौड़ ने बताया कि जैन साध्वी निधी महाराज और उनकी शिष्या ने 22 मई को अटल टनल को पैदल पार किया। वे 30 मार्च को शिमला पहुंची थीं और वहां से रिकांग पिओ होते हुए 10 अप्रैल के बाद काजा की ओर गई थीं। बुद्ध पूर्णिमा तक वे काजा में रहीं।
22 मई को जब वे अटल टनल के रास्ते में पहुंचीं तो पैदल जाने की अनुमति न होने के कारण उन्हें 4 घंटे इंतजार करना पड़ा। उन्होंने वाहन में बैठने से इनकार कर दिया। बाद में डीसी से विशेष अनुमति मिलने पर सुरक्षा कर्मियों की निगरानी में उन्हें टनल पार करने दी गई।
दोनों साध्वियों ने करीब पौने दो घंटे में टनल पैदल पार की। वे प्रतिदिन 35 से 40 किमी पैदल यात्रा कर रही हैं।
